There will always be some customers who are so serious about getting the best price that it won't matter to them if you accept credit cards or not. However, you can be sure that there are a lot of other people who will believe that if you don't accept their credit card, you must not be a truly legitimate business. When you make the decision to accept all forms of payment, including credit cards, you will find that your credibility with the buying public will take a huge leap.
With the improved image that you'll have after your business begins to accept credit cards, you'll find that your sales will probably jump. Especially if you sell a product that's considered a luxury item, and not a necessity, you'll be able to take advantage of the "impulse buyer". These are people who make an emotional decision on the spot. If they have to go home to get their checkbook, they'll probably have had too much time to think it over and that sale will be lost!
If you have an impulse that you should apply for a merchant account so that you can begin accepting credit cards, go ahead and think it over. Then DO it!
