Like it or not, the world's economy today revolves around credit cards, so you may as well accept it. There are many reasons why this is true, but credit cards are here to stay. Chances are, when you go shopping yourself you expect that the store merchant will accept your own credit card. Your customers who use credit cards have the same expectation.
So many people today use their credit cards for their everyday purchases, that if you don't accept them you could risk losing a sale. The same way that you walk into a store assuming that the merchant accepts credit cards, your customer will make that assumption about you. Businesses rely on their customers to survive, so you want to do all you can to meet their needs.
Which came first, the chicken or the egg? One reason why so many consumers expect you to accept their credit cards, is because so many businesses expect to get paid with a credit card! Even though there is a cost to you, the merchant, the fact is that credit cards protect you from accepting a bad check. In the long run, it may save you money to pay those extra fees. In today's computerized world, one swipe of that magnetic strip down the back of every credit card contains information that can protect you from a bad sale.
In today's competitive marketplace, your image with your customers can make you or break you. If you don't accept credit cards, you run the risk of not being taken seriously the next time they're in need of the goods or services that you can provide for them - no matter how well you can provide those goods or services, or even how competitive your prices are!
