Some think that disputing your credit report takes either a lawyer, or a lot of money. Not to mention time and the headaches that must be involved. The truth is, it's a very simple process. If you're prepared (a and a little bit lucky), it can all be finished within a month.
Step 1- Get copies of your credit reports. There are many websites which offer this service for free. But be advised, although the credit report itself is free, it comes with a catch. When you go to these types of sites, be prepared to give them your credit card information to get your free report. This is how you will be signing up for a "Free Trial" of some sort of credit service. If you're smart about it, and are good with following up on things, this will work.
Just cancel the service after the free trial has ended. If you forget to cancel, you will be charged a monthly service fee onto your credit card.
You can also log onto the three main credit bureau's website. Simply do searches for Experian, Equifax and Trans Union and access their sites. They will charge you for a fee for their service, usually under $30.00. If you live in a state which mandates that residents of their state get a free annual credit report, the site will tell you how to get it. They will also have a list of these states (like Massachusetts). Make sure that you get copies of all three, as their contents can vary.
