A Comparative Look at Instant Credit Report Products

Is the expression, "There's more than one way to skin a cat" applicable to obtaining your instant credit report? Well, being an adamant cat lover, I'm not sure I want to know the origin of that charming expression. But if it means there are several ways to tackle and solve a credit issue, well, folks, I'm all over that. And in that spirit I offer the following mini-review of online credit report options.

Your motivations may be credit repair, a New Year's resolution to budget, or simply idle curiosity. In this case, curiosity will definitely NOT kill the cat, but may save -- or scratch -- her skin.

MyFICO Instant Credit Report

This product includes a feature called Score Watch, which is advertised to be the only FICO monitoring product on the market. A subscription to this service includes a prioritized instant alert system which notifies you the customer when changes are detected in your FICO score and Equifax credit report. You can be sent your alerts via email or even wireless text. You can thus stay abreast of your eligibility for better interest rates on loans, mortgages and credit cards.

In Suze Orman's FICO Kit Platinum, not only are you granted instant online access to your FICO score and reports at the three bureaus, but you get a feature called a Credit Corrector. This is somewhat like an editor for your credit report, finding mistakes and offering suggestions for disputation. There is also a program which helps you draft a customized plan to pay down credit card debt. The reader is encouraged to go to the myFICO website if interested in reviewing other related products.

Instant Credit Reports of a Different Stripe -- Same Animal?

By far the most common instant credit report service package is composed of an instant free credit report during an initial 30-day trial period. The customer is often entitled to "unlimited reports thereafter," along with some of the debt reduction coaching and disputation templates and techniques offered by myFICO. A partial list of companies offering this ubiquitous service package includes but is not limited to: ConsumerInfo.com; 3BureauReport.com; FreeCreditReportsInstantly.com; SpendOnLife.com; CreditExpert.com (Experian Credit Manager); MSNCredit and others too numerous to mention.
