Perhaps the best advice to those in debt is to take a look at how their money management. For many, money management is easier said than done. Americans are faced with higher inflation now more than ever; a trip to the gas station for a fill up can cost more than $20. High-paying jobs are tougher to find in today's economy. If you have children, you know how quickly medical and education expenses can add up.

Debt management is curable, but it takes discipline and money. You may be able to get your debt under control without large sums of money. Channeling more money into debt and away from day-to-day expenses and luxuries is the first step to living a debt free lifestyle.

Advice for debt management: Take a look at your debt-to-income ratio.

Your debt-to-income ratio is what lenders and financial experts review when approving loans. It is also what you should review carefully when you develop a plan to get out of debt.

A large percentage of Americans have high debt-to-income ratios. They spend much more than they earn, extending themselves with credit cards and loans. This isn't including buying homes and fancy cars. This includes buying unnecessary large purchases and frivolous items. It is good debt management advice to resist these urges.

Chances are, you have seen it for yourself. A family has a recent model television, yet they decide to buy a big screen television because it was on sale. Usually, the smaller television goes into the kids' room or another room in the house. Was the big screen television really necessary? No.

The bottom line on debt management advice is that you should keep your debt-to-income ratio as low as possible - or at least equal.
