Apply for a Credit Card Here: Has Convenience Gone Too Far? (cont.)

Contributed by Kris Olds

In the same example of retail lenders, there are often times throughout the year when the credit card holders will have the opportunity to save additional money on their purchases. Again, this is only a good idea if the plan is to pay it off before the interest begins accruing. To apply for these credit cards is to agree to play a game that involves responsible bill paying and calendar watching for those special sale days.

Ready? Set? Go apply for that credit card and find out in an instant.

The ability for a lending company to make a fast decision on an application has to do with the amazing technological boom that has made personal information available at the touch of a keystroke. Credit scores can be pulled up by lending companies once they have a consumer's social security number. When consumers apply for a credit card, they are asking the lending company to determine their credit worthiness and make a decision about how much they could borrow at any given time.

Whereas it may be appealing to find out that information from the comfort of home or the comfort of a check-out line, having a responsible approach to credit means not taking on more debt than in healthy. Playing it safe with credit cards can make the difference between a safe future and a scary one. The power is in the consumer's hands.
