Having the best credit card rate possible is a great thing to consider when doing your search for your credit card needs. If you know you cannot afford to pay off your monthly balance, or you do not feel you are responsible enough to commit to taking care of it monthly, then considering interest rates is the best thing. Imagine having an interest rate of 20% on all purchases from month to month.
The thought of that is overwhelming, so just imagine the effect is has on you physically as you struggle with managing finances and get behind on payments. Definitely, in your search for a credit card, keep interest rates a factor, but also keep in mind that there are other factors when applying and accepting a credit card.
Please be aware of those credit cards with annual fees. Of course some of the credit cards with the best rates and incentives may have you paying an annual fee as some kind of trade-off. Still, many credit cards will not have annual fees. If for some reason you do end up with a credit card with an annual fee, make sure it is not an unreasonable fee. I have signed on the dotted line for credit cards with annual fees of $39
99, which does not seem so bad if you consider one credit card I signed on for that had an annual fee of $70! That was during one of my "desperate for credit" stages years back.
