If you're a worrisome mom, disputing your credit report seems like an impossible idea. You do worry about everything, including having the ability to send your kids to college. But now there's hope!
The first step is to get copies of your credit reports from the "Big 3". You see,. there are three main credit bureaus- Experian, Trans Union and Equifax. All are different about how they report your credit and all have different scoring. Most likely, the information that each of them holds will be different from the others, so it is important to get copies of each.
Getting copies of your credit reports are easier than you might think. You can access the "Free Credit Report" websites, but be prepared to have your credit card ready, as you will need to agree to a "Free Trial" of whatever their credit service actually is. If you do not cancel the service at the end of your free trial, you will be charged on a monthly basis to your credit card. So, try to make a note to cancel.
Well, now you have your credit cards. You will need to go through them with a fine tooth comb to check for errors. Remember, all three credit bureaus will report differently, so don't assume that just because one of the reports states something accurately, it doesn't mean the others will.
I recommended a highlighter, and simply highlight the errors which you may find. The errors can be found in all sorts of places, such as a previous address, a former employer, etc.
After you have highlighted your inaccuracies, you're ready to start disputing your credit report.
