In the past, you couldn't get an auto loan if you had bad credit. Thankfully, this is no longer the case. Auto loan providers usually have several different financing programs that depend on credit, and you're sure to qualify for one.
It's true, with the economy a bit unstable over the last few years, lenders have had to become a bit more lenient than they were in the past. This is great for people who have challenging credit! While you are able to get a loan, you may have to pay a higher interest rate, but it's a trade off! Getting an auto loan and making your monthly payments on time will allow you to improve your credit, and get lower interest rates in the future! One auto loan is a great stepping stone to better credit!
Even when you have bad credit, applying for an auto loan is quite simple. You'll need your financial information and the vehicle information, and you're ready to apply! It's that easy!
Typically, if your credit score is below 560 or so you'll need to do one of two things to qualify for any financing. You'll either have to be able to put some money down on your vehicle purchase or have a co-signer who has a higher credit score.
Obviously, you'd rather get your auto loan without any money down if you don't have it, and without a co-signer, but sometimes to get your credit back to a place where you can apply for financing on your own, you need help. If a lender looks at your credit and sees that you have never made an attempt to pay back a debt, they are not going to want to give you an auto loan. It's nothing personal, but it all boils down to how you look on paper.
So, you either have to show the lender you mean business with ten percent down, or you need a co-signer that can show some stability to the lender. If you do one of these two things, you're in! You're ready to get an auto loan!
