Don't Like to Carry Plastic? Shop Online Using Just Your Credit Card Number! (cont.)

Contributed by Annie Bauers

If I give out my credit card number it's safe isn't it? No one can charge something if they don't have my card right?

You should always protect your credit card number and not give it out to anyone that you are not doing business with. It is now possible to make purchases with your credit card without having to show the actual card. To make a purchase like this all you need is to have the credit card number. With this in mind you should not give out your credit card number to anyone. There is no reason that anyone should have it or need it unless they are a merchant you are doing business with.

There is no reason that someone would need this information unless they were going to use your credit. Be a wise consumer and don't give out personal information that effects your credit to anyone unless you are doing business with them.

I wrote down my credit card number and keep it in my rolodex at work. My friend told me that was stupid. Why?

If you write down information like your credit card number make sure you keep it in a safe place. This is because you don't want this information to be in a location where other people can see it because they can use it to make purchases against your credit. You should write this information so you have it if you need it in an emergency; just don't keep it where co workers or others can see it or take it. Be a wise consumer and protect your personal information and your credit because no one else will.
