This value was based between 330-830, from very poor to excellent. There are three major credit bureaus: Experian, Equifax, and Transunion. My score was derived from Experian only. So I got a streamlined version of what a potential loaner might get.
My credit report was simply a numeric score on a scale based on information from one credit bureau. It is somewhat useful to me to know what general category I fell into. On the other hand, it was more than a little vague. There was no information on what my score was based on other then general guidelines for what lowers or raises your score. There weren't any specifics such a late payments driving down the score, reasons why my score wasn't higher despite my record of having paid off debts promptly, or any other information which was specific to me.
I got an excellent score so I'm not complaining. However, it would have been interesting to know the factors that played into the complication. None of that was offered except some general statements that could apply to anyone.
Of course, I shouldn't look a gift horse in the mouth. The credit report from FreeCreditReport.com was free. I guess if I wanted to know more I would have had to purchase a more extensive credit report from FreeCreditReport.com. Like most situations, you get what you pay for.
