Finally! the Government is Getting Us the Free Credit Report We Should Get!

It's true, in December of 2004 a program started to allow consumers to get a free credit report. It seems like a logical law, to allow all consumers to have access to a free credit report, but until now it has taken a consumer's cash to see what is on their private credit report.

Is this federal free credit report program for real?

Yes! Starting in the West and moving to the East, consumers in each state will be eligible to receive a free credit report.

Each consumer should be interested in getting a free credit report. A credit report contains extremely personal information such as unpaid debts, how you pay your bills, if you've ever been arrested, how often you apply for credit, who looks into your credit, where you live, and whether you've been sued or filed for bankruptcy.

When can I get my free credit report?

Almost anytime you can get online and get a free credit report from a variety of places. When you type "free credit report" in your browser, you'll come back with roughly seventeen million hits! Obviously, there isn't a lack of free credit report providers, but these providers usually only are able to give you a report from one reporting agencies, which may not be what all of the agencies report for you. So, getting your free credit report from the federal government really is the best idea.

The regional roll out is broken down into the Western states, Midwestern states, Southern states, and the Eastern states.

The Western states include Alaska, Arizona, California, Colorado, Hawaii, Idaho, Montana, Nevada, New Mexico, Oregon, Utah, Washington, and Wyoming. The consumers of these states can order their free credit report beginning December 1, 2004.
