Nothing in the world is free, except my debt management advice for you!
For families on fixed incomes, sometimes the day to day necessities of life can be somewhat tough to pay for. So what happens- We utilize the wonderful world of credit cards. We use them to buy the little things at our neighborhood discount department stores like shampoo, soap, and paper towels. Before we realize what is happening, our credit cards have reached their limits, and we are stuck with paying the bill seeing very little coming off of the actual balance.
Now, we have no room left on our cards to buy the little incidentals which we need, and no cash to buy them either, since all of our money is paying the minimum payment on the credit cards.
So now what? If we pay the minimum payment on the credit card, it will take more than seven years to pay it off (depending on your limit).
So we watch television and drown in our misery only to see about fifteen commercials for these wonderful debt management companies and how they're helping a million people across the country and how they're a non profit company so they must be great! And why didn't I think of this sooner? I could have paid all of my debt down and be home free right now, right?
The services of non profit companies are not free- they have bills to pay just like everyone else. They charge a small fee, usually on a per creditor basis, to help reduce or even eliminate your interest and putting all of your creditors onto a single payment for you. The they pay your bill for you. This is really a reasonable rate, around $5.00 a creditor. This fee is usually on a voluntary basis, so if you don't want to pay it, you don't have to.
