Now this is cool. If you're lucky enough to live in a state which offers this service, you are golden. Massachusetts is one of them. To find out if you're residing in one of these dates, just go to the websites of the three big credit bureaus- Experian, Trans Union and Equifax. A simple search on your favorite search engine will do the trick. These sites have links to pages where you can find out if your state is one of the lucky one who offer a free annual credit report.
This is the sneaky way! Apply for credit that you know you won't get. When you are denied, the creditor will send you a letter in the mail about how they based their decision. This letter will most likely contain a customer identification number and a credit bureau or two where they got their information. By notifying the credit bureau that you were denied, they are legally obligated to give you a copy of your free credit report.
