Internet Credit Card Fraud Management

Internet credit card fraud is a prevalent problem for business owners and consumers alike. It can cost both parties more money than either would care to spend.

As a business owner that accepts credit cards as a form of payment, you'll want to protect yourself against Internet credit card fraud. No doubt, the company who supplies you with your merchant account has loss prevention in place to protect you against fraudulent activity. Be sure to utilize them to their maximum capabilities. Not only will it save you legal headaches, but it will also increase your revenue, thus increasing your cash flow.

Protecting Yourself and Your Credit Cards While On The Internet

Most Americans have Internet access in their homes and most use their credit cards to shop online. While this is extremely convenient in our busy lifestyles, with what price does this convenience come?

Using your credit card on the Internet makes you susceptible to all types of scams and scammers. Here are a few ways to protect yourself:

* Review your bank and credit card statements thoroughly and immediately report any suspicious activities;

* Review your credit reports regularly;

* Never respond to unsolicited emails requesting your social security number, credit card number or any personal information;

* Promptly report cases of fraud to your bank, credit card company and local authorities;

* Keep a record of your credit card numbers, expiration dates and credit card company information in a safe place - NEVER carry it in your wallet or purse!

* Update your computer's virus protection regularly;

* Shred all unnecessary documentation that contains any of your personal information;

* Never use your social security number or birth date as your login information;

* Never leave credit card payments in an unlocked mailbox, drop them at the post office;

* When traveling, use caution when using the Internet cafes or public access computers.

Some of these tips may seem silly to you, but how silly will you think them if you find yourself the victim of identity theft or fraud?
