When the credit bureau receives these written requests, by law they are required to investigate these claims and report their findings to you within thirty days. At that time, any information that they cannot verify has to be removed from your credit file and an updated copy has to be sent to anyone who requested your credit report in the last six months.

Now that your credit is fixed - keep it that way! As we said, each of the credit bureaus is required to issue one free copy of your report each year. You must request it in writing, but it's worth that thirty-seven cent stamp for the piece of mind that good credit will give you.
