What Do You Know about Debt Reduction Management? is It Enough? (cont.)

Contributed by Stephanie Litaker

Begin by cutting out expenses like the extra cup of coffee, or movie rentals, trips to the movies, trips to the casino, anything that is a pleasure rather than a necessity. This probably doesn't sound like fun, because it's not. But it is a necessary evil if you want to be successful with your debt reduction management plan.

If you go through your expenses and find that you really don't have any extra expenses that you can cut out, you can still save money in other ways. Look at your utility expenses. If you have cable or satellite television, that's not a necessity - that is a luxury. You probably have a telephone with caller ID, call waiting, call forwarding and all the extra bells and whistles. All of those features are not necessities, they are all luxuries. So if you think you've cut all of the fat from your budget, if you look a little bit closer, you will find that you probably haven't.

Using the fat for your debt reduction management program

After you have trimmed all the excess spending out of your monthly expenses, it's time to put that money to work for you to get you out of debt. All of the extra money that you free up, should be applied to your credit card debt. That's the first step in getting your debt under control.
