Contributed by Annie Bauers

What is a credit repair dispute letter?

A credit repair dispute letter is a letter that a consumer has to write and submit to the credit reporting agencies to have something removed from their report. You are advised to check your credit report several times a year for errors. The reason is if you find an error on your credit report or something that you want to dispute a letter must be written. If you find an error on your credit report it will not be removed immediately just because you say it is an error.

You have to prove it and officially dispute it through the form of a letter. There are debt management companies that will help you write a letter of credit repair dispute or you can go online and look one up. There are certain things you will want to add to the letter because if they aren't included your letter won't be a valid letter of credit repair dispute. If there was an error on your report it doesn't seem fair that you have to do this and take the time and effort.

However if you are denied credit because something is on your report in error and you aren't approved for credit you have earned and deserve that won't be fair. Check your credit report from time to time and if you find an error take care of it as soon as possible.
