My First Car, Financed with a Gmac Auto Loan (cont.)

Faintly, I hear someone talking about a GMAC auto loan and monthly payments, and would I like to sign here to complete the application process? HUH? You mean I have to pay for this shining piece of beauty? And I have to apply for a GMAC auto loan, and make payments monthly for how long??? They can't just give me the car?
When do you need a GMAC Auto Loan?
Apparently, just being my smiling self was not enough to convince the powers that be to give me a vehicle. Because I had no money to pay for a car outright, I had to take out a loan through GMAC and pay it every month for four years. Four years??? Who knew what was happening next week, never mind four years from now? I guess I knew what I would still be doing though, paying my car loan.
After all the paperwork, all the title and registration, all the waiting, the day to get my brand-new car finally arrived. I was giddy with delight, practically leaping for joy. One of the happiest moments of my life was driving my new, brilliant-blue, sparkling, Chevrolet Cavalier off the lot. Of course, that happiness was dimmed a bit when the gorgeous salesman pointed out that I should put it in Drive, not Reverse, to get out of the lot, but I digress.
As I peeled out, with the salesman shaking his head my rearview mirror, I had never felt happier, or freer.
