One-Night Stand with Option for Relationship: the Case of the Instant Credit Card (cont.)

Contributed by Alix Mcmurray

Can You Take Your Instant Credit Card Out in Public?

Don't let appearances fool you. A smartly dressed card may not have good credit posture. Some instant credit card companies do in all fairness advise you, "This is NOT a MasterCard or VISA." Neither is it American Express, so you may want to investigate where you could actually take this card and have it accepted. You may wish to ask the merchants where you do or intend to shop if they would accept this particular card. Kind of like asking your friends, "Hey, what do you think about this person -- hottie or NOT-y? "

Is Your Instant Credit Card Too "High Maintenance" for You?

The chance to obtain a new credit card with no credit check and reasonable income requirements may seem like a gift from Heaven. But as you get into the relationship, what your card demands of you may be too much. For starters, there may be an enrollment fee of perhaps $150. There may also be a one-time or monthly membership fee. And for "preferred status," there may be higher monthly fees which may only be partially refundable if you decide to go back to regular status.

So, if you're not up to paying for a series of candlelit dinners and long-stem roses, you may want to look elsewhere for your credit card relationship.
