Can You Really Get a Free Credit Report on Line? Five Minutes to Fact or Fiction
You see it all over television and hear it only the radio-
Get your free credit report online!
But do these online services really get you your credit report for free?
Well, I guess that depends on how you look at it.
If you're smart and can remember to cancel "free trial subscriptions", then go for yours. The way that these companies work is by getting you to go to their site with the promise of a free credit report. If they actually didn't give you a free report, that would be false advertising. Their website would be shut down by the FCC if they made claims that were untrue.
So, you log onto their site to get a free credit report. After about five or six pages of advertisements, you're almost ready to get your free credit report.
Now- here comes the fun part. Make sure that you have your credit card handy because you're going to be needing it very shortly. The website will ask you for a credit card number before you proceed to your credit report. After you give them your credit card number, and all of the information that goes along with that, you will be sent to a page for "Conditions and Terms". Make sure that you read the conditions and terms of getting your credit report. What you don't know could add a few surprises on your credit card statement.
