If you thought that rebate credit cards were all about frequent flyer miles and other things that you really can't use, think again. More and more credit cards are offering specialized credit card rebates to entice customers to spend more money. There are rebates when you buy your groceries on your credit card, when you purchase toys at Toys R S, when you buy books at a Borders Book Store. The trend toward specialized rebate credit cards has spawned a whole generation of rebate cards that give you cash back on every purchase that you make.
The GM Card applies 5% of your purchases to the purchase or lease of selected General Motors vehicles. Every time you buy, 5% of what you spend is 'deposited' to your GM Card account. When you're ready to purchase or lease a new GM vehicle, visit a dealer, pick out your car, and then apply your GM cash rebate to the purchase price. How much can you save? $3,500 on a new Cadillac Seville. $2,500 on a 2005 Chevy Suburban. $1000 on a 2005 GMC Safari. You can save from $1000 to $3500 on over 50 2004 and 2005 GM cars just by using your credit card to buy things.
Some merchants offer cards with rebate rewards good for purchases made from them. A ToysRUs Visa card from Chase Manhattan, for instance, will give you 5% cash back on purchases from ToysRUs and 1% back on all other purchases, paid in Geoffrey Rewards certificates whenever you accumulate $10 in rebates. Do you Christmas shopping early? Another company that offers the same type of rewards program is L.L. Bean, with a higher cash rebate from purchases through L.L. Bean, redeemable as savings on purchases from L.L. Bean.
