Reviewing and Fixing Your Credit Report (cont.)

Contributed by Jessie Hart

Fixing a credit report starts with contacting the major credit bureau that reported the mistake, and after that, contacting the company from which the inaccurate information originated. An important detail to keep in mind is that, whenever possible, you must record in writing every single step you take in the process. Make all your requests in writing and have them confirm or deny in writing. That way, should the worst happen and you be required to stand before a judge to defend yourself, you will be able to prove your case.

Once you have requested the changes to be made, demand from the credit company a copy of the form they submit to the credit bureau. You will have to demand. Use persistence! If the time and effort is too much for you, then there is always the option of a credit repair firm. There will be fees to pay, but in the end, it is more important to insure that your credit report is crystal clean.

Personal Credit Reports: A Yearly Review

In the past, credit reports were off limits to individuals. You were basically in the dark about how your credit history would appear to other companies or banks. The right to view your credit report is absolutely free, so take advantage of it and make sure that every detail is in order.
