So Many Credit Card Rewards, So Little Time (cont.)

Contributed by Stephanie Litaker

How to save yourself from reward credit card pitfalls

You may have chosen to obtain one type of reward credit card because it offers you the perks you want. Let's say you are a frequent flyer and you want to earn travel miles for the money you spend.

Going with the airline mile credit card, if you are buying a large item and you immediately want to put the purchase on your credit card because that means you will earn the miles, you may not remember to stop and think about the other "miles" you've earned with that card lately.

So now, if you buy that big screen television, and you bought the surround sound audio system last month, it's true, you may have earned quite a few frequent flier miles, but you've also earned yourself quite a large credit card bill. If you don't want to get yourself into trouble with your credit card, make sure you know how much you're spending and how much you can afford to spend. It may be the only way you keep yourself out of credit card trouble.
