So Many Credit Card Rewards, So Little Time

Contributed by Stephanie Litaker

So many options for a reward credit card, where do you begin

It seems that every credit card company in the world of credit cards now offers some type of incentive program or reward program as a way to gain your business. But, is this a good thing or a bad thing? The answer to that question remains only with you - can you handle yourself with a credit card? If you can, then it's probably a good thing, but if you're like two million other Americans it's probably a bad thing. That's right, more than two million Americans are facing a rising mountain of debt, and one of those reasons is the easily accessible credit card options.

Choose your own ending with credit cards

As a kid you may have indulged in a choose-your-own-adventure book, and probably enjoyed every minute of it. But now that you're an adult you may not see life for what it really is - the same choose-your-own adventure, only in reality rather than in fiction form. Credit card companies like that you don't see yourself choosing your own ending, they would rather have you focusing on the present since and not worrying about six months or one year down the road. Why?

Because the vast majority of people that use credit cards regularly don't think ahead to the time when their credit card bill is going to arrive in their mailbox and that means they will use their credit card more than they probably should.

This is even more true with those shoppers that have a credit card with a "cash back" reward program. These programs will offer the credit card holder a small percentage, usually between three and five percent, of their total balance back as a cash incentive. Whether you actually get a check in your hand, or the reward amount credited to your credit card account will depend on the company.
