"Look before you leap" is a sound piece of advice regarding the online credit card application. Think of your options for an online credit card application as you would an online date. Well, maybe think even more somberly, because unless you are planning on dating a Gold Digger, the credit card has a greater chance of sending you to the Poor House than "Iamcute38".
Beware a pretty package which may hide something with "issues". Yes, the convenience and interactive lure of the online credit card application can feel a bit like a really hot blind date. But the key word here is, in fact, "blind". On those sites where you can not navigate past the application page in order to look up the Terms and Conditions, then seek other company. You should be able to thoroughly "check out" your prospective card before you get in over your head.
Sure, you'll find the cash back and other rewards features on the first page -- they're the pretty packaging. But in credit cards as in love, there are "other fish in the sea." Many, many credit cards offer low-to-zero introductory APRs, as well as rewards programs. A pretty face alone should not a relationship make.
Ironically, it may be easier to have a brief affair with another person than with a credit card. Unless you are independently wealthy and have not a care in the world, then how you spend your money has dire consequences. Actions -- that is, transactions -- have consequences. You may not have a graph pinned up to your bedroom wall with the deadlines of all your introductory APRs highlighted in pretty colors.
