There are many reasons why you should get a copy of your credit report and review it today. Credit is one of the most important factors in a person's life; credit is almost as important as money itself. Your ability to borrow money and get financing is very important.
Your credit report lists your personal history such as previous addresses, employment, your spouse, and of course, your credit history. Also, your credit report lists who has viewed your credit report. These could be inquiries based on credit cards and department store cards you have applied for and apartment leasing inquiries.
Hundreds of thousands of people are the victim of identity theft every year, and many do not realize it until they go to apply for an auto or home loan. Identity theft is serious business, and it can literally ruin your credit history. Removing fraudulent credit information on your credit reports due to an identity theft takes months to complete, even with a court order.
When you get your credit report, review each creditor carefully. Should you have any question about the creditor listed on the report, call the company listed or the credit reporting agency (TRW, Equifax, or Experion) and discuss your concern with them. The credit reporting agency will give you instructions on what to do if you have been the victim of identity theft.
