First, you'll have to get copies of your credit reports. Since the bank wasn't able to offer you credit, they must tell you, in writing, where they got their information from. This is where the credit bureaus come into play. There are three big ones- Experian, Trans Union and Equifax. Your bank may have used just one or all three to decide on your credit- either way, they have to tell you.
So log onto their websites. This is the easiest and fastest way to get this resolved. On the letter that the bank gave you, there will be some sort of customer ID number. Type this number in where the site tells you to. Poof! There's your credit report. Now you can print it out for your records.
Doing this online is again the fastest way. Go to the "Disputes" link and type away. Now, the credit bureau must submit your disputes to the creditors who, in turn, have only ten days to either take it off of your report or prove that their information is correct.
After your creditors are done, they resubmit their new information to the bureaus who then must notify you of their findings. Again, the internet is the fastest way.
When all is said and done, the credit bureau will send you a brand new copy of your error free credit report. Now, go back to the bank and get that SUV!
