Travel a Lot? Ever Thought about an Airline Credit Card? (cont.)

Contributed by Stephanie Litaker

The fine print of an airline credit card

All credit cards, airline or not, have fine print. Make sure you understand what you're agreeing to before you actually agree to the terms set forth. Basically all airline credit cards have a set of guidelines and terms that must be agreed upon once you become a card holder, and one of the biggest factors will be the annual fee of the credit card. Airline credit cards traditionally have an annual fee,

but when you look at the big picture, any annual fee that you may be assessed will be more than offset if you earn even one free trip every six years.

Beyond the standard annual fee to have an airline credit card, you should also consider the other fine print associated with using the miles you've earned. When you earn frequent flier miles from using your airline credit card, there may be restrictions on when you can and cannot redeem your frequent flier miles. These restrictions typically fall around the holiday season, and other peak travel times.

So, if you are planning to use your frequent flier miles (earned either through travel or through purchases on your airline credit card) you should always check with the company before your bank on that possibility.
