Treating Your Customers Right, the Business Credit Card (cont.)

Contributed by Boo Roberts

When should I not use my business credit card?

Your business credit card should not be used for personal items. If you are traveling on business, definitely use your credit card for the hotel room, but don't expect to be reimbursed if you drink all the little bottles in the refrigerator in your hotel room. If you need your laundry done while you are away on that business trip, that would be a good expense to submit.

If you decide to buy a round of drinks for a group of good-looking individuals in the bar at last-call, that would not be a good expense to submit. If you are planning on taking a limousine home from the airport, that expense probably is not going to be covered. If you drive your own car and submit your parking fee, that would be covered though. If, on the day you get home, you decide to take your family out to dinner, that would not be a covered business expense.

If you bought a suitcase full of souvenirs for your family, chances are you probably used your business credit card to pay for them, but don't count on your receipt from "Lou's Waterfront Emporium" being reimbursed by your place of business. It is best just to use your business credit card for what it was intended: business.
