When you have a credit card as a student, you can begin developing life-long credit card debt management skills. Now, we know you're not a baby and you're not exactly in your developmental stage anymore, but you are in the time of your life when you do develop the habits and behaviors that you will carry with you throughout your adult life. That's a long time, you'd better really put some effort forth now to save yourself some trouble later.
Many college students and young adult, and heck - even some adults, have a hard time envisioning what's going to happen beyond today and tomorrow. You have to think about what you're going to be facing later in life, and for your as a college student that may include a lot of life-changing events such as graduating from college, getting married, possibly having kids, or even starting your own business.
When all of these events occur in your life you want to know that you can embrace them with a clear credit history and good credit habits, and that's why you should develop your credit skills now. Remember you can't teach an old dog new tricks.
