Use Your Time As a Student to Build Your Credit with a Credit Card

Contributed by Stephanie Litaker

Make the most of your time with a student credit card

Did you think college was all about the next party, or did you realize that you could use your student credit card as a way to help build your financial future? If you haven't thought of your time as a student to use your credit card wisely and build a solid foundation for your financial future, you need to start thinking about that now rather than waiting until graduation, or until after you get your first job, or before you get married or before you do whatever other milestone you set for yourself. The time is now.

Start at the beginning when building your future with your student credit card

When you become a student, you will feel a freedom that you've never felt before. You will feel an independence like that which is celebrated every July. But with those emotions also must come a sense of responsibility and a glimmer of planning ahead for your life after college.

As a student you have a lot of expenses that you probably don't think of, but sit down and focus for a minute or two and you will probably be able to see exactly where all your money is going - to pay off your student credit card. If your money is not going toward paying off your student credit card, it should be! Shame on you!

Once you figure out what you spend your money on, and you realize just how much you're spending on taking the guys out for a drink, or treating the ladies to a manicure, or maybe just treating yourself to a pair of shoes every week, you can quickly figure out how to cut back on your spending. And especially what you should stop using your student credit card to pay for.
