Way Cool Credit: the Credit Card Offer Just for Students

In this "Just Say No" era, you can still say "yes" to an offer designed just for you: credit cards for students. Learning a healthy respect for credit can and will change the course of your life for the better. Sure, it's cool to pay in cash when you can, but paying with credit teaches you the value of planning ahead. And if you have your sights set higher than living in a cardboard box with your pet rat Stinko, you may want to read on.

Don't Throw Away That Credit Card Offer When It Comes in the Mail

Just because you see your parents contort their faces in disgust when they receive yet another credit card offer in the mail, the same doesn't have to go for you. Your parents have been through all this before, and probably have too many credit cards as it is. (We Baby Boomers are notorious for that! ) But you young folk are brand spanking new in the Wonderful World of Credit. It's a classic case of "Do as I say, not as I do."

So go ahead and look at those offers, particularly the ones targeted for students. And use those sparkling reading comprehension skills to look over the fine print, otherwise known as the "Terms and Conditions" section. You can get a financial education just from doing that.

You Don't Have to Be Perky to Get the Perks from Your Credit Card Offer

You've probably heard the term "perks" and maybe not quite known what the heck they are. It's short for perquisite, something that is a special compensation or entitlement that you get just for being you. You can call it a "goody" if you prefer, or something much more suave and sophisticated like "emolument". Whatever you call it, your student credit card offer is full of them: no interest charges for six months, no annual fees, no minimum income, and more.
