What's So Different About Debt Consolidation In California?

If you are a California resident and looking for debt consolidation services, there are a few things you should be aware of.

The California Fair Debt Collection Practices Act, which was established in 1977, helps regulate the conduct of debt collectors. How you may ask? For starters, the Act prohibits all kinds of unfair, illogical, irrelevant, deceptive, dishonest and unfair debt collection practices by debt collectors.

Along with the limitations, the creditors also enjoy a fair share of flexibility to collect their due debts. Furthermore, The Fair Debt Collection Practices Act makes the debtors eligible to exercise a number of rights keeping in mind their benefits.

Finally, the use of threat, violence or other criminal means to harm the person is prohibited. Even debt collectors should not harm the reputation or property of any person. The use of obscene language is also restricted. They should not make continuous telephone calls with the intention to annoy, abuse or harass any person. What a concept, no more rude dinner interruptions!

How Do I Go About Finding Debt Consolidation in California?

When it comes to debt, residents of California are really no different than say someone who lives in Minnesota - well maybe except for a better tan. Plain and simple, people who cannot meet their expenses and debt with their salary need some form of debt counseling. Unfortunately, many consumers resort to unhealthy spending habits under the guise of paying off their current debt.

Without debt counseling, some people may use one credit card to make the payments on another credit card or a mortgage or car payment. If you ever find yourself in such a situation, it is best to step back and seek the help of a debt consolidation professional.

First things first, you should find a reputable company with which to do business. Don't be afraid to shop around! You don't buy the first house you see or the first car you test drive, so don't settle for the first debt consolidation company you run into, either.
