For a nominal charge to you, you can offer this to your customers. However, keep in mind that only Pay Pal account holders can use this method. If your customers don't have an account and have to sign up for one to pay for their purchases from your site may be a deterrent to your customers.
If your start-up budget can afford a merchant account, that may be your best bet. Having your own merchant account offers a sense of credibility and professionalism to your business.
If you are selling your product or service on the web, you should have a way to accept credit card payments. Whichever method you ultimately choose, remember that each comes with its own sets of pros and cons. To protect yourself, be cautious. If you suspect someone is using a credit card fraudulently, don't be afraid to verify the information. If you get a customer who is using a stolen credit card, you will be liable for the amount of the transaction plus any legal fees if the actual card holder wishes to press charges. Those fees can be costly to a brand new business so be careful.
