Why Was My Application for a Credit Card Denied? (cont.)

Contributed by Deborah Zeitler

Ask yourself why you need a credit card

Sometimes there are very good reasons why a credit card company might deny your application for credit. If you have a history of being habitually late on payments to your creditors, it could be that you really can't afford another credit card. If you're applying for another card because you really need the money, a credit card company will know this simply by viewing your credit report.

If you find yourself in this situation, it might be best if you first examined your budget to determine where you might cut corners. Many people do this and realize that they really have cut back all that they possibly can, and find themselves getting deeper and deeper into credit card debt. There are many very good, reputable credit counseling companies available to help you if you're at the end of your financial rope.

Before sending in another credit card application and only getting deeper into debt, you might consider talking to a credit counseling company to see if they can help you to get out of debt and improve your credit.

How to make sure your next credit card application isn't denied

It's ironic, but in a way, credit card companies only give cards to people who don't really need them. The only way to make really certain your next credit card application is accepted is to spend time now on improving your credit - make payments to your current creditors on time, and have a realistic budget to prevent living beyond your means. In the end, this will provide you with a financial peace of mind that's worth more than any credit card!
