Another thing to keep in mind: The information posted on your credit report can vary between the credit bureaus. Just because one of them is correct, don't assume that so are the other two. Checking each of the reports is a very important part of keeping and maintaining good credit, so be sure to log onto each of their sites.
People do make mistakes, and so do creditors. Errors can be found in your previous addresses and employers, as well as in the actual data the creditors provide to your report. If an error is found, contact the credit bureau immediately to have the issue resolved. This must be done in writing, so you will either have to email your concerns or write them out the old fashioned way. Either way, the credit bureaus are supposed to be on your side and usually work quickly to fix any problems.
When denied credit, the creditor must inform you in writing the reasons why. The information that they give you at the bottom of their letter will most likely have one of the big three credit bureaus on it. Now all you have to do is contact the bureau. Be sure to keep the letter handy as you will be needing some information on it. The credit bureau will then send you a copy of your report so that you can see what has been reported to them.
