Your Life in a Nutshell: the Credit Card Application (cont.)

Contributed by Boo Roberts

Where do you find a credit card application?

Just about anywhere these days you can find a credit card application. The most popular place is, of course, the inside of your mailbox. On any day of the week, thousands of pieces of credit card junk mail are ferried out to unsuspecting people by way of the postal service. These are things we don't ask for and really don't want. Who wants to see yet another credit card application in their mailbox?

And these companies get really sneaky too, not having a return address on the envelope, so you need to open it to see who sent it to you. Occasionally the envelope will even have no window on it. Sometimes the companies will even put "urgent, open immediately" on the envelope. You rip it open expectantly, hoping to find something interesting, maybe even a check for free money, who knows.

But instead all you see is a form letter cordially inviting you to fill out and return the enclosed immediately. The enclosed being, of course, a boring old credit card application, and it doesn't even ask any interesting questions.
